Be Bold this FALL

With cold weather fast approaching, it’s time to kiss our shorts and sundresses goodbye and pull out our jeans and trench coats. But just because the weather may be gloomy, doesn’t mean our wardrobes need to follow suit. Fall is the perfect time to incorporate bold colors into our stylistic choices.
Walking around Xi’an today, I noticed pops of color paired with mostly monochrome outfits. From emerald green cardigans over a gray top, to burnt orange trench coats paired with black tights, the trend is clear: single, bold colors are in.

This style has become popular because it draws attention to one signature piece of clothing; typically an overcoat or a comfy sweater. These bright pieces, when paired with neutral tones, allow for you to be daring with your outfit without having to worry about looking like a Picasso painting.

Even bright Spring colors, like light purples and blues, can translate well into your Fall wardrobe when following this trend.

Keep in mind that you’re going to want to be comfortable this Fall, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your style. Try a vibrant cardigan over a black shirt tucked into black pants, for a look that you can wear anywhere and still maintain your comfort. Whether you’re busy on the go or having dinner with close friends, you are guaranteed to look polished yet cozy. And remember: the most important part of fashion is to have fun. Pick a color you wouldn’t normally choose. As long as you combine a single, bright article with an all black (or neutral) ensemble, you really can’t go wrong.

  • Note: Avoid busy patterns and bright pants acting as the stand-out piece.

Don’t feel like spending your last yuan on that mustard yellow sweater (also a fall color)? Stores like H&M, Urban Revivo, and Asobio offer plenty of affordable Fall choices.

15It’s easy to get bogged down by the weather, especially because the dark skies accompanied with Fall seem to have snuck up on us. However, as I walk the streets, I can tell that the weather has not has not negated the vibrancy of this city. As sunlight continues to fade away, it’s nice to see that the people of Xi’an are still breathing warmth and light into their fashion, with a mantra that says, “We can’t control the weather, but we can control our style.”
