TOP5 ROOFTOPS TO PARTY ON

Article By XIANEASE

The heat is here, but Xi’an summer nights can’t be beat. It may stay a bit toasty after dark, but this is the prime time for partying outside. Street-side barbecues and street food shanty towns outside of clubs have their charms, but they pale in comparison to a clear night and a cold drink on a rooftop. Not sure where these elusive rooftops are? We got you covered.

DJMT

DJMT opened right around winter, but they spent that time wisely. Over the past few months, they did some renovations on their rooftop, including a stage and restrooms, and are now ready to show off for summer. It’s right next to Xiaonanmen, so not only do you get those nice wall-side views, but if you look off the west edge of the roof you’ll see all the hustle and bustle of the Xi’an streets—truly the best of both worlds.8-1

Travelling With Hostel – Roof Garden

If you like roofs, you’re going to love Roof Garden. The four flights of stairs you’ll have to surmount mean you’re going to have to work for this one, but it’s worth it. Located near Zhuque Gate, it’s another beautiful view of the wall, but what separates Roof Garden from the rest are the drinks; you can soak up some cocktails or homebrewed beer while you soak in a great view of the city.8-2

Amici BBQ & Grill

If spending so much of your time downtown is making the city walls feel like a prison, Amici will be a nice change of pace. Located in the heart of Yanta, Amici has a drop-dead-gorgeous view of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda (大雁塔). If that’s not enough, they’ve got everything you need to be sated for an evening. Need food? They have barbecue. Want to drink? They’ve got drinks because what would barbecue be without some beer to wash it down? Amici is the total package for an evening of al fresco relaxation.

Changqin BBQ

Pretty much the original gangster of rooftops in Xi’an, Cao Chang Po’s famous rooftop might be a little tricky for newbies to find. If you’re on the south bend of the Po, look for the hugely popular spinach noodle restaurant, then go to the rightmost side of that to find an elevator. Go to the top floor, and, lo and behold: a sprawling patio with all the barbecue and beer you can force through your face hole. It may not have the breathtaking vistas of some other places (unless you like staring at the monolithic apartment buildings lining the streets, in which case you’re going to be ecstatic), but you’d be hard-pressed to find a better place to raise some hell with friends.8-3

Cloud Bar @ Crowne Plaza

This one’s going to be a bit tougher on your wallet, but we couldn’t get through this list without mentioning this one. Located on the 52nd floor of the Crowne Plaza Xi’an, which is currently the tallest building in the city, you can see pretty much EVERYTHING from there. Shine up your shoes and polish your cufflinks for a fancy night atop the world…or at least atop Xi’an.8-5
