To see what the actual process is like Xi’an Aier Gucheng Eye Hospital, we interviewed Andy K, who recently had the procedure done.

XE: What made you decide to have Lasik surgery?

The reason I chose LASIK is because it has been FDA-approved to correct vision since 1999. Today, doctors perform about 600,000 LASIK procedures in the United States each year. Most people who have this surgery end up with 20/20 vision, and the vast majority — more than 95%. And now I am very satisfied with the result, so for me it was the right choice.
XE: Why did you choose to do it at Xi’an Aier Gucheng Eye Hospital?
One of the reasons is that my friend suggested this hospital because she already had a LASIK surgery at this hospital and another reason is that this hospital is one of the most famous, plus AIER Eye Hospital Group is China’s leading ophthalmology hospital group that covers Asia, Europe, and North America with huge scale and outstanding medical capacity. It has three listed companies in China, Europe, and Southeast Asia with a total number of more than 600 specialized eye hospitals and centers. So, as it’s the biggest and most famous and experienced brand, I didn’t need to risk my eyes with a less experienced hospital.
XE: What advice was given to you to do to before surgery?
A day before the surgery, I had to use eye drops that were given to me by the doctor 4 times a day. I couldn’t had to eat any spicy food the day before the surgery. That’s it. Before the surgery, the hospital did various kinds of tests for my eyes to decide if the surgery is safe and possible for my eyes. And luckily it was fine. I could choose between LASIK and SMART surgery.
XE: How was the experience overall?
The experience over all was better than I expected. I will rate the hospital 9/10. The surgery itself was very fast, comfortable, no issues. The whole staff was very helpful throughout, even after the surgery, and even now the doctors still check on me. Everything was very convenient.
XE: Were there any communication barriers when speaking to the doctors?
With the communication, I had no problem all. I myself can speak a little Chinese. Plus, even when there was any kind of trouble, the doctors tried their best to resolve the problem with the help of some other nurses or translation software. So, overall the communication went very smooth.
XE: How has this surgery affected you? What changes has it made to your life and work?
After the surgery I will say now I feel very positive change regarding my life. With glasses and contacts lenses, there are always side issues – that can be anything, extra weight on your nose all the time, irritation from the contact lenses, and other small issues, but when they become your daily routine issues it’s pretty hard. So I would say it really has had a very positive change on my life and work as well. The best part is that I don’t have to find my glasses after I wake up.
