On Saturday December 12th the AWE Association held its inaugural Christmas charity party at the Gingko Bell restaurant. The event was held to raise money for the Xinxin Children’s home which cares for abandoned children and children with physical and mental disabilities.
The main event of the evening was a silent auction of prizes put forward by AWE members. These included highlights such a ‘life coaching session’ from Dr Jody of Xi’an Shan Huo Health Management ltd., beauty treatments from Amy’s Beauty, piano lessons from Lynn and the Hussar Special sausage deal from Viva Xi’an. In addition, there were a wide variety of physical prizes including candles, shirts, action figures and artworks. Bidding was fiercely competitive on various items, in particular Amy’s facial scraping treatment, which saw members running back and forth to check that they were still top bidder! The silent auction raised over 5000 RMB which will be used to buy daily supplies for the Xinxin Children’s Home.
Other events during the evening included a dramatic round of musical chairs which saw Karen nimbly snatch the last stool in order to beat her last competitor to win the grand prize of a steam iron. The three balloon race was won by Whe Warriors (Jin, Mark, Zoe and Summer) who narrowly beat Karen’s Hips Don’t Lie (Karn, Adena, Jay and Hadi) to win a beer tower, which was kindly donated by Gingko Bell.
After the excitement of the auction and games the evening was taken away by DJ Will, whose turntables took us through the best of the 60s – 90s and saw everyone dancing into the wee hours of the morning.
In addition to the excellent food and drinks at Gingko Bell, there was also a tasting table for Ponty which provided free flow sampling of fantastic wines throughout the evening.
